In the midst of the federal government
shutdown, the U.S. Senate took time on Friday to pass a resolution
recognizing National Chess Week.
According to The Hill, Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid passed S.Res.266, which designates October 7-13 as “National Chess Week” Friday.
The resolution was reportedly passed through unanimous consent.

Nonetheless, Reid on Saturday said it was “cruel” to keep the shutdown going.
The federal government shut down
earlier this week after the Senate and House failed to come to an
agreement on a continuing resolution bill to continue funding the
government.
