A lot of individuals living in the
Washington, D.C. area are feeling the effects of the government
shutdown. Throughout the shutdown, some businesses, however, are
offering free items or services to furloughed federal workers.
Here is a list of some of the free things furloughed workers in the Washington, D.C. area can take advantage of.
At least two bars in the Washington,
D.C. metro area are providing furloughed federal employees with free
alcoholic beverages. Mockingbird Hill is offering a free glass of sherry, while Kangaroo Boxing Club is offering a free screwdriver to furloughed federal workers.
Burgers
Z-Burger is offering free burgers between the hours of 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Popcorn
AMC Theaters, one of the nation’s largest movie-theater chains, is offering a free small popcorn — regardless of whether individuals purchase a movie ticket or not.
Sex Toys
A large online sex-toys store is giving free vibrators away, if you use the coupon code “shutdown.”
Museum Admission
The National Geographic Museum has waived the price of admission during the shutdown.
Hangout Area
Need a place to work? Sixth & I Historic Synagogue is offering a “place to hang out until an agreement is reached.”
Throughout the day “Political Ping
Pong, board games, reading materials, constant streaming of the West
Wing, and an informal meeting space with all of the essentials for
non-essentials — free coffee, food, and Wifi.”
BBQ Pork Meal
Individuals can obtain a free pulled pork sandwich at PB BBQ in Del Ray — unless you are a U.S. Congressman.

Knitting Classes
Fibre Space is offering knitting classes
for individuals impacted by the shutdown. The crafts store says classes
are taught between the hours of 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the weekdays.
Sandwiches
Individuals can obtain a free sandwich between the hours of 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. from Jose Andres.
